AHELI CHOUDHARY/27yrs
Branded clothes generally give someone a style or a look. To Aheli they gave her the purpose of her life. After her psychology graduation, she was sent for a social audit at a branded apparels factory. There she saw the children and women getting abused. She gave in her report. But nothing was done about it. There are many with a “conscience” who have faced this situation. Give in a report and file a complaint; someone ought to do something about it. If nothing is done, then nothing can be done.
But Aheli chose to differ. She went to the root of the problem. And the problem was the uneducated and unaware labors. They had to be given basic education and knowledge of their rights. So she quit her lucrative job and started teaching the slum dwellers of Kalyanpuri (Delhi) in evening classes. She teaches them basic English and Computers. They are also taught about their rights. They are taught how to use the RTI Act to get justice.
The students now have the similar fire in their eyes as Aheli. They love her, as she has given them hope for a better future. They are just hand full compared to those who are getting exploited across our country. But at least this long journey has begun with this small step. Now many more ‘Aheli’s are needed to go further on this road.
